Keep in mind, however, that not all programs (or games, for gamers out there) support dual-core yet, so for some it may not be the best investment. For those looking for power, however, you can??t go wrong with a dual core. There are also Quad Core processors available, but they are still much more expensive than the average dual. The Cache is essentially a buffer between the Processor and your RAM (which runs at slower speeds), so the faster your Cache is, the faster your laptop will run. /p>

Design:
This LG handset is particularly designed for those who are obsessed with messaging. It is a slider, candybar phone with a full QWERTY keyboard. I say “candybar” because it weighs 117g and has a height of 109mm, width of 51mm, and a depth of 17.8mm. Its by no means a flimsy or delicate phone. LG built this solid phone to last.

The Rumour has a single two inch screen that displays 10 lines of text. It also has 262K color 176220 pixels of resolution and automatically switches to landscape mode when the QWERTY keyboard is slid out. The screen displays coloring and contrast is of moderate quality.

On the right spine is the jack for the 2.5mm headset and a MicroSD card slot thats capable of holding up to 4GB of memory. This equates to 4,000 songs. The left spine has the camera and volume buttons.

Messaging:
What the Rumour does to messaging is what the bazooka does to hunting. Its a messaging power machine. This is thanks to the Instant Messaging via Windows Live and mobile email in addition to standard picture, video, SMS, and text messaging.

The phone can store up to 260 messages in the inbox and 50 in the out with up to 140 characters per message. Each text message can be sent to a total of 25 recipients. The mobile email can be synchronized to a corporate email account using your contacts and the companys directory.

Media, Battery, and Web Browser:
The LG Rumour does well as a MP3 player, also supporting MP4 and AAC, aw well as other music files. Its easy to transfer music files from your PC onto your handset with the help of a compatible USB cable. Its easy to download ringtones to your handset through Bell Mobility.

The web browser is able to “optimize” regular HTML sites so that they can be viewed on the small screen. The speed isnt great but suffices for simple viewing of news, weather, account information, ringtones and music downloading, and such.

The Li-Plymer, 950mAh battery will give you roughly 4 hours of talk time and 2 weeks at standby.

Camera and Battery:
The Rumour sports a modest 1.3 megapixel camera. It will take decent pictures. Three resolution options are available: 1280 x 960; 640 x 480; and 320 x 240. To overcome the (relatively) low megapixels, the view mode, color tone, white balance, image enhancer, and brightness settings can be adjusted to make the pictures nicer. If a picture of Canadas pristine outdoors is taken with this phone, it will hold up rather nicely.

Audio resolution is 176 x 144 and video is128 x 96 pixels. You can record videos from a mere 10 seconds to a whopping 2 hours with suitable video sync and a reasonable frame rate.

Overall Ruling:
Now this isnt a smartphone and doesnt function like a business smartphone but for the average consumer, its plenty satisfying. This is especially for those whod rather text and chat than talk.

Despite its size, new UMPCs like the UMID UMPC offer impressive hardware. It has 1GB of RAM, a 1.3 mega pixel webcam, wi-fi, and a card reader. To add to its appeal, it even has a touchscreen display, which is able to run at 1024 ?600 resolution.

Features wise, it is able to run all regular games and applications, and performance is comparable to that of a mid-range laptop. However, when compared with a traditional laptop, the UMPC is much smaller and lighter. It can perform all basic functions such as Internet surfing, downloading music, watching videos, etc.

The exterior of the UMPC can be improved upon. The size looks about the size of a brick, larger than a mobile phone, but smaller than a laptop. Since it is a mobile gadget, enthusiasts will be expecting the UMPC to be something that is cool enough for them to carry about.

When choosing between the two options, bear in mind that the laptop is a time proven mobile gadget. For stability, always choose the laptop. But having said that, the UMPC offers exciting possibilities. Those who are looking for lighter and smaller gadgets will most certainly welcome the release of powerful UMPCs. Of course, once you have tested a UMPC and confirmed that it works well for your needs, it can also develop into a trusted option for stability.

Invented by Mr. Reidar Finsrud, the whole machine is placed inside a glass mount, to prevent visitors who view the machine in the gallery from touching it. A steel ball (about 2.7 inch diameter, 20 pound) is rolling on an aluminum track, about 25 inches in diameter, placed horizontally. Three pendulums, about 45 inches long with tunable weights at the lower end, controls three horse-shoe magnets that the steel ball has to pass by on the track. Embedded in the track is a (mechanical) controlling/timing mechanism. It looks like a steel wire bent into a triangular track, 5 inches long. The ball rolls over it and pushes the wire down through a slot in the track. This affects one of the pendulums and regulates its swinging motion. The steel ball has not stopped revolving for months. The Eeepc – Mobile Computing at a New Level

I love gadgets. I am addicted to them and if I see something I like then I feel a massive urge to immediately go and buy it.

Looking in a recent PC magazine I came across the EeePC by Asus ?? looking at the pictures I saw something that I had longed for, for some time. A small portable PC, a cheap price tag, seemingly specifically geared up for Internet on the move.

The EeePC is pronounced e-pc ?? it is meant to stand for three easy points ?? easy to learn, easy to work and easy to play. I think the original idea was to make something affordable to the many including students and families.

What attracted me to the device was it??s apparent portability. Measuring 225 x 165 x 21 mm this is tiny in comparison to any other laptop. It has a solid state hard drive so pretty rugged in the fact you can knock it and bang it about without damage occurring. With three hours of battery life and a mobile phone sized charger makes it all pretty portable.

Of course as with any relatively new gadget the demand is great and getting hold of one was pretty tough. They come in different colours. My preference was the black one and I guess this was the same for most people as it was completely out of stock. In the end I settled for the blue.

After pressing the power button the wait is minimal. I would say about 20 ?? 30 seconds. It??s strange as the machine is silent when booting. You kind of expect to hear the hard disks spin and the fan going. Peering into the 7 inch screen is surprisingly easy although I guess it could get annoying depending on what you are trying to achieve. However, so far, for just MSN, email and web browsing it is absolutely fine.

More surprisingly is the keyboard. It is obviously relatively small but it is quite easy to type on. I think after a small amount of adjusting typing should be relatively easy. Ok you would not want to type a full novel on it but for emails, blogging short articles etc ?? absolutely fine.

Even though it is hard to think of this little gadget like this, this machine is a fully functional PC. This means you can pretty much do anything on it that you could a normal PC. It comes with a Linux based system on it. This is open source and subsequently, with a couple of minor modification, there are literally thousands of free applications that can be run on it. The main screen is easy to navigate round giving you obvious icons such as ??Internet?? or ??email?? or ??messenger?? so you really do not have to be a techie to work your way around. Having said that, if you wanted to, the machine is powerful enough to run XP on it should you require.

With wi-fi built in, connecting to the Internet is easy. A webcam, microphone and speakers allow for easy communication. You also have USB ports as well as a flash memory slot allowing for an addition 32gb of storage on top of the 4gb included within the machine. For me, this means I can take this machine and take it anywhere and where there is not a wireless network to connect to, I can connect via 3G from my data card. This means that I can be in the Internet anywhere without taking, what I now consider, a bulky item such as a laptop. This will even fit in the glove box of your car or in a handbag!

Whilst opening the EeePC will void your warranty ?? this system is upgradable. There are countless modifications or upgrades that can be done to make your Eeepc unique and super quick. As the software is open source, it can be modified to do pretty much anything you require.

I think this machine is going to be a huge success and pave the way for truly mobile computing. I have just paid 250 (0 approx) for the 4GB model. There was a 2GB model for 200 and I have heard rumours that Asus have managed to relocate the speakers allowing for a greater screen size on a soon to be released model.
